Can an instant kill a creature MTG?

Writer Emma Jordan

Not any instant. It depends on what the spell says it can target. When you cast a creature card (paying its cost, etc.) it goes onto the stack.

What counts as damage MTG?

Damage is impairment or destruction that a creature, planeswalker, or player may suffer from a certain source. Damage dealt to a Planeswalker causes that many loyalty counters to be removed from it. Damage dealt to a player causes them to lose that much life.

Does Damage carry over in MTG?

You are almost right. Damage stays normally on a creature until the end of the turn. As last thing in the turn, after no player wants to do anything anymore before the next turn, (together with different other things) all damage is removed from all creatures in play. It does not stay to the beginning of the next turn.

Can deadweight kill a creature?

No. Once a player would get priority, if Dead Weight reduces the toughness of the creature to a value less than 0, or if the damage marked on the creature is equal to or greater than its (new) toughness, State Based Actions will cause the creature to go to the graveyard.

Can strangling spores kill a creature?

Strangling Spores Although at first glance it may seem like Strangling Spores can only kill small creatures, the fact that it shrinks instead of deal damage means that you will often be able to ambush larger creatures in combat by making it smaller then handling it in combat.

Does lose life count as damage?

Spells that specifically say “lose life” cannot be reduced by spells that redirect damage. Damage is caused as “a result of combat” (119.2a) or “as an effect of a spell or ability” (119.2b). Spells that cause loss of life do not cause damage. Instead, they go around damage and just cause the loss of life.

What happens when you block an opponent’s creature?

A blocked creature will deal no damage to the defending player unless it has trample (or some other card-specific ability). It sounds like you want to kill an opponent’s creature before blockers are declared. Your last chance to do this is when you receive priority after attackers are declared.

When to cast instant to prevent a creature from blocking?

The last time you can cast an instant to prevent a creature from blocking is in the Assign Attackers step, after attackers have been declared. If you have moved to the Declare Blockers step, it’s too late, since the very first thing that happens is the defender declares blockers. Nobody has priority until after that happens.

Can I cast instants in response to my opponent declaring?

When my opponent declares blockers, I want to be able to kill a blocking creature (with something like Hero’s Downfall) while still doing combat damage to my opponent. Is this possible? To answer the question in your title, yes, each player receives priority and can cast instants after blockers are declared.

When to kill an opponent’s creature in RuneScape?

It sounds like you want to kill an opponent’s creature before blockers are declared. Your last chance to do this is when you receive priority after attackers are declared. If you kill potential blockers at this point, they won’t be around to be declared blockers, meaning the damage will get through to the opponent.
