What triggers heroic MTG?

Rulings. A heroic ability triggers only when the creature’s controller casts a spell that targets it, not when any other player does. A heroic ability triggers whenever a player casts any spell that targets the heroic creature, including a spell that also targets another creature.

Heroic only triggers when you CAST a spell that targets a heroic creature from your hand (or graveyard if the spell has flashback). When equipments are on the battlefield they target a creature with an activated ability. So, to answer your question, yes they do target, but it wont trigger Heroic.

Does mutate trigger heroic MTG?

Heroic triggers when you cast a spell that targets the Artisan. Casting a mutate targeting the Artisan will trigger it.

Can you cipher a copy?

When you first cast the spell with Cipher from your hand, it is a card, so you can encode it on a creature. When that creature deals combat damage to a player, you can cast a copy of the encoded spell. That copy is not represented by a card, so you can not encode it on a creature.

Is cipher an enchantment?

Cards with cipher are sorceries (or instants, theoretically); they aren’t enchantments, and they aren’t Auras. Second, spells that have been encoded onto creatures aren’t on the battlefield, or in a player’s hand or graveyard.

Does equipping count as targeting?

Yes, activating the “Equip” ability of an Equipment involves targeting the creature. (The word “target” is right in the reminder text for “Equip”.) No, it doesn’t count as casting a spell.

Can a sorcery on the stack trigger heroic?

The effect is on the stack, but is not spell because it is not a card being cast (or a copy of a spell). Instants and sorceries that say “target” will trigger heroic. Enchantment auras will as well even though they do not say “target” because of rule regarding auras: 113.1b Aura spells are always targeted.

When do cards with abilities that target trigger heroic?

No, Heroic cards specifically state “whenever you cast a spell that targets [this card]”. Abilities are not spells. Here is the definition of a spell: 111.1. A spell is a card on the stack.

What happens when you increase your heroic Stat?
